There were numerous events and activities; the distribution of leaflets, hanging the banners, holding the symposia and lectures on the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and raising the women’s awareness that the freedom of society stems from women’s freedom and is linked to it.
In al-Tabqa, the Women Department and Young Women Union launched on Sunday their campaign to receive the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women by hanging banners, posting leaflets on the streets and roads and distributing leaflets to the people of the city. The leaflets mentioned the Mirabal sisters who were killed on November 25 in 1969 by the Dominican Ruler Trujillo, and demonstrated the real role of women in achieving the freedom of societies.
In Deir ez-Zor, the Women Department held a lecture for the women of al-Sor village in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which was attended by a large number of women from the region and members of civil committees and institutions.
During the lecture, the co-chair of the Legislative Council in Deir ez-Zor, Malak al-Rebah, talked about the story of the Mirabal sisters, the history of women and their role in building the societies in addition to the psychological and physical violence suffered by women during the past centuries.
She also pointed to the Turkish aggression on the areas of northern and eastern Syria and its aggression on Afrin, which caused abusing hundreds of women, recalling the martyrs Barin Kobani, Hevrin Khalaf, Amara, Çîçek and other women who were victims of Turkish barbarism.
In al-Raqqa, the Women Department organized a lecture for the women of the city in al-Taj Hall to explain the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, in addition to showing a short film attended by a large number of women in the city, members of civil institutions and committees and members of the Future Syria Party.
After holding a minute of silence, the administrator in al-Raqqa Women’s Department Zuleikha Abdi started the lecture with an overview of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, and talked about the history of women, their suffering during the last eras in addition to raising the women’s awareness of their real role in building the societies and succeeding the revolutions.
For its part, the Syrian Women’s Council called on the United Nations and Human Rights Organizations during statement today to put an end to the Turkish aggression against Syria, and the Council assured during the statement that this aggression negatively affected the women’s situation, calling for the peaceful dialogue to bring security and stability to Syria.
The statement cited a UNICEF report that one third of the world’s women were subjected to violence in various forms, and one of six women was subjected to physical or psychological violence, noting that one million women were subjected to sexual exploitation each year.
The statement of the Syrian Women’s Council mentioned the violations practiced against women in northern and eastern Syria and all areas under the occupation of the Turkish state, ISIS and Jabhet al-Nusra, and called on the international community to stop these violations and prosecute the mercenaries for what they had committed against the martyrs Hevrin Khalaf, Amara and Çîçek Kobani.
It is worth mentioning that women’s departments in the mentioned areas continue their campaign until the 10th of December.
